Tree Hugger?
They're knocking down some buildings by me -- a movie theater and a Mexican restaurant (probably both built in the 1970s). I don't have issues with knocking down the buildings at all. If they were much older, I might. My beef is with the tearing out of large, old trees.

I have no idea what they're planning to build, but I saw the bulldozer rip out about four or five very mature trees. I mean, big, hulking trees with extensive root systems. Couldn't they have found a way to work around these (very few) trees? The Denver-metro area is sorely lacking in the tree department and it seems such a shame to thoughtlessly kill what few we do have.

When I saw the last one being torn out of the ground and then swung around in the scoop of the bulldozer, I felt like I wanted to cry. It was a terrible sight to see.

I'm no hippie, but it seems I have some kharmic tie to trees. And no, it's not because I'm a vegetarian. Okay, maybe it is.

Yet Another Post about Dogs
I am definitely wanting dogs more than ever. I tear up at all dog commercials (especially that "priceless" one) and I imagine a little puppy wandering around my home. We're still looking for a house, but it's slow goin'.
We were in a pet store the other day. [[Let me state here that we will adopt our dogs, but you can't fault a girl with a dog addiction from visiting the pet store while in a mall.]] There was a cute little guy who would never be much larger than a cat. Not that it barked, but if it did, I can't imagine that it would be that loud. How is that little pup-pup so different from a cat? I think it is so unfair that my apartment complex allows cats but not dogs. Dogs don't smell as bad as cats and people like them better. We need dogs.

Lever 2000 Original
I have noticed in my user-tracking that a lot of visitors have arrived at my site by conducting a search for "Lever 2000 Original" at various search engines. I wrote a rant a while back complaining that I couldn't find it anymore. I'd been using it for 10 years....so I was really missing it. I HATE the new "Perfectly Fresh." (Hate is a strong word, but I seriously hate the smell.)

I decided to call the 800 number on the box. Turns out that they have stopped making Lever 2000 Original. But, they have been taking a lot of calls complaining about the disappearance of original.

So, if you're a Lever 2000 Original fan, please call (800) 598-5005 and ask them to bring it back. Hopefully, if enough people call in, they will!

Heading East
In September, I'll be heading back to the east coast for the first time in five years. I have been getting very excited about it. It will only be a long weekend, but I am longing to see the Atlantic ocean and the beautiful green backdrops.

Friday Five [courtesy of smattering.org]

1. Where were you born?
Long Island, New York

2. If you still live there, where would you rather move to? If you don't live there, do you want to move back? Why or why not?
I no longer live there and I do not want to move back. I moved five years ago and I have not been back. I get pangs of homesickness every once in a while, but visiting would be enough.

3. Where in the world do you feel the safest?
At my parents' house.

4. Do you feel you are well-traveled?
Yes, I have lived on both coasts and in between. I've yet to go overseas, but I really lack the desire.

5. Where is the most interesting place you've been?
New England has so much history, but Alaska was just beautiful.

Ironing
Like most people, I do not enjoy ironing. I spent a good two hours last night ironing shirts. Why do I feel so accomplished when I finish with the pile of wrinkledness? Why do I fell a small rush of joy when I open the closet the next morning and see that row of pressed shirts? Maybe it's knowing that I don't have to iron for another couple of weeks. :-)

Unbelievable
My sister passed this link on to me and I cannot believe that someone could be so cruel. What is wrong with people? I am mailing my check in as soon as I get home. Poor puppy. What a horrible, horrible thing. Please consider donating.

Travelin'
Visited Mom and Dad for the Fourth of July weekend. It was fantastic. I love spending time with them. Got to hang out with the dogs and watch a bunch of movies. Molly was so much better than the last time I saw her, and we even got her to swim! And since, I'm known to complain about flying, let me say that yesterday's flight was completely problem-free. (I can't say that about Wednesday's flight.)

John Turtorro
We saw Mr. Deeds this weekend and contrary to all the reviews, it was actually funny. But as some of the reviews have pointed out, John Turtorro totally stole the show. He rocks in every movie, but he was particularly funny in this one.
