"Don't lose any sleep tonight|I'm sure everything will end up alright|You may win love"

Lately I've been having some terrible dreams about myself. Maybe I've always had terrible dreams and I just don't remember them once I'm awake. But these recent dreams have me waking up relieved. I can't help but think that it's some kind of message to me. Who knows if it's from some divine being or if it's some inner-child type thing inside of myself trying to bring my consciousness back to the days of self-love. These dreams typically find me in horrible physical conditions. Like, last night, I had to be the first one out in the ocean when we got to the beach and I was out in deep water doing foward rolls over and over and somehow I got shot.

Yes, shot. My dad came out to get me and I didn't know I had been shot, I was in some kind of loopy state of shock and they took me to the hospital. At first they thought they were going to have to amputate my legs, so in the dream, I assumed something had happened to my legs. Then, the doctors decided that they didn't need to amputate but that I might never be able to walk again because the bullet had hit me in the lower back near my spine. I guess time passed within in the dream because I was walking, but my legs were all mangled and atrophied and contorted. It was really weird, my feet were all crooked and I like walked on the sides of them, but I did walk. I was so happy just to be able to walk.

It was right about then that I woke up. So happy that I had my legs in pristine condition. I think what the dream was trying to tell me is to stop worrying about my thighs being too big, or not muscular enough or any of that. Anytime I start to get down on how I look, I'm going to try and remember that elation of waking up from that bad dream and discovering that I had perfectly functioning legs. I know I'll still have those down-on-myself days all the time, but at least I have this little affirmation to get me past my stupid freak-outs.

Admittedly, Hudson drives me nuts a lot of time. But his vigor and enthusiasm and undying happiness inspire me. If he's all jumpy and crazy and drooly and I'm frustrated with him and I firmly tell him to sit, he sits. Then, he stares at me with a happy face and his tail wags back and forth so forcefully on the carpet that it makes this swooping noise that reduces me to laughter. He's so gosh darn cute and excited about everything. In that respect, I wish so much that I could be given orders and still be the happiest creature on earth with a wig-waggity tail.

Being outside at night when it's warm, having drinks with friends. Or being at the beach.

2. What was one great thing you did last summer?
Went on that camping trip.

3. When you were a child, what was your favorite summer activity?
Going to the beach.

4. What has been your favorite summer vacation?
Going to Hawaii and California when I was 15.

5. Summer goes well into September, but when do you feel like it is over?
I start to get sad around the end of August, but that first day that my feet get cold when wearing sandals is when I feel like summer is over.

Bored by the Chore of Saving Face

You ever have one of those days where everything and everyone seems a little bit off and you're not quite sure if it's you or the universe that is actually off? It's nothing bad, just everything seems to be weird. It usually corrects itself within a day or two.

Can't Stop the Rock

When I walk really fast or run, certain songs come in my head. I don't necessarily like them, but they apparently go with the beat of my stride:

Whip It
I Believe I can Fly
Can't Stop the Rock
We Didn't Start the Fire

On any given day it could be anything, but these are the songs that keep coming back. Lately it's mostly been "Can't Stop the Rock." :-)

Time to start running at least once a week

The Cherry Creek Sneak is on April 24th. That gives me about a month to get ready for that fateful Sunday morning. This will be my 8th year running the 5-mile race. See, for me, it's not really a race, but something I like to complete on a yearly basis. Complete not compete. :-)

Tales from where your Butt meets your Leg

Ahh, and what a painful tale. Errr, tail. :-) I have some weird recurring pain in my ass. Literally. It doesn't hurt when I workout or walk or run or anything like that. It *kills* when I drive or when I'm sitting in a restaurant. Maybe it's stop-sitting-on-your-lazy-ass disease or something. All I know is that it can disappear for weeks and then one day I'm driving and it feels like someone is trying to peel the meat off my butt bone and then it throbs for hours. It's on my right butt cheek. So, if you have any idea what it might be, please e-mail me.

Started on the hunt for flooring for our house. I know I've been it less than 3 years, but puppies are the great destructors. I think we've decided on a terra cotta colored tile and some type of berber carpet. We're going for longevity....
HA HA HA HA HA Like that's attainable with my four-legged children.

Friday Five

1. What's the first physical feature that attracts you to another person?

2. Do you read the tabloids (i.e. The National Enquirer, The Mirror)?
No. But I do read gossip columns online.

3. Have you ever snuck a peek at someone else's paper while taking an exam?
I don't think so, but I don't remember. Mostly people cheated off of me. :-)

4. How would you describe your vision?
My vision is pretty damn good.

5. What's the scariest thing you've ever seen?
One night a guy leaving a dance club and driving his car like he was in a video game. Slammed into a car, backed up into a tree, and with a completely smashed up sports car took off full speed down the block. I was so scared that he was going to kill other people and himself.

How to make it snow

  1. Head to the store to buy birthday gifts for your friend.
  2. Quickly check the shoe section for shoes in your size.
  3. Find four AWESOME pairs of fancy sandals marked down and pay less than $40 total.
  4. Go home, double-check them in the full-length mirror - yup, they're good.
  5. Watch the flurries start.
  6. Walk past closet and wave - someday soon, my dears.

A Record for Me

Today is my 3 year anniversary at my current job. Yay! My previous record was somewhere close to 2.5 years. Lots of dot coms on the ol' resume. I love this job and couldn't be more psyched. I just can't believe how fast three years has gone.

Friday Five

1. What was the last dream that you had about?
That I got breast implants and a nose job. I don't want either in real life, so when I woke up from the surgery in the dream I was horrified and asked who authorized the surgery and how I got there. It was awful - my boobs were huge and they hurt and it was really weird. My nose was all mish-mashed together and the skin wasn't sewn back together correctly.

2. Does it hold any significant meaning to you?
No. I think I had it because the South Park that was on on Wednesday was about plastic surgery. Kyle's Dad became a dolphin, Kyle became a black man and Mr. Garrison became a woman. I'm sure that's what caused the weird dream.

3. Do you dream in color or black and white?
I'm pretty sure that I dream in color.

4. What is the most frightening dream you ever had?
That Jessica shot me and I was dying.

5. Is there one dream that stays clear in your mind despite the fact it was more than a few years ago?
My dreams where I fly; the dream where a gorilla came to my house in NY and slung me over his shoulder and was running around my backyard with me; and the one where the ghost came in over the washer/dryer in the basement of my NY house and chased me around the basement.

I'm not a suckah, so I don't need a bodyguard

I saw "Supersize Me" on Monday night. It was pretty interesting. It's stuff like that, that makes me soooooo happy that I'm a vegetarian. I'm a vegetarian mostly for the fact that I love animals, it's just an added bonus that I bypass all the cholesterol/sodium/fat/calories of fast food.

Bruce Willis was on the Daily Show tonight. He seemed kinda out of it. But still, oh so dreamy. There's just something about him that I've liked since I was like 11 years old when he was on MoonLighting.

Can't Help It

I stayed up til like 1:30am on Friday night watching the movie "Thirteen." Everywhere I went yesterday, whenever I saw a couple of early-teen girls, I tried to not picture them as the girls in the film. It's pretty disturbing that it's based on a true story. Sad, really. I was a super dork when I was thirteen...and I liked it. :-) It kinda freaked me out, I guess. It's like back in the early 90s when I saw the film "Kids." In the back of my mind, I'm like "I know what you kids are up to." Ha ha! I guess that makes me old.

Friday Five

1. Do you use profanity?
Hell, yeah.

2. What are your favorite words of frustration?
"You have got to be kidding me." "No Way!" "Asshole!" "Fucker!" "Shit!" "Poopers!" "Poopie!" "Suck it!" "Kiss it!" "You can kiss my ass." Wow--This list makes it look like I have Tourettes.

3. Did your parents ever swear in front of you?
Not growing up. These days, I do hear the occasional profanity. Hee hee

4. Do you think that films should be rated based on the language they use?
Nah. Kids hear more in their real lives.

5. If you could curse out someone right now, who would it be?
No one. That's not the way to resolve anything.

Some Friday Cheeeeeeez

On Fridays, a radio station here plays *anything* you request, completely disregarding their normal format. It's really fun to hear some stuff that you totally forgot about. This morning on my drive in, I heard this...oh the angsty ballads of the 90s.

Great White -- Save Your Love

I wake in the night,
To find you on my mind-
Deep in a dream,
You’ll always be,
Till the end of time. . .

I look in your eyes,
They touch my soul.
My love is hard to hide-
I’m never alone, when we’re apart-
I feel you by my side . . .
& here in my heart,
Where no one else will ever be-
I know who you are-
So lock the door, and throw away the key!

Save all your love,
Save your love, for me!
When I’m alone at night,
You’re all I see. . .

I wake from a dream,
& see you by my side-
How could I belong to someone else;
when holding you, feels so right. . .
& here in my heart,
where no one else will ever be-
We’ve made it so far,
So lock the door, and throw away the key!

Save all your Love,
Save your love, for me!
When I’m alone at night,
You’re all I see . . .
Save all your Love,
Save your love, for me!
Don’t turn your back on me,
You’re all I need!

I know who you are,
We’ve come so far-
So baby, stay with me!

Save all your Love,
Save your love, for me!
Don’t turn your back on me,
You’re all I need!
Save your Love
Save your Love
Save all your Love!
Save, Save all your Love!

Some More Random Stuff About Me

Yeah, I know this whole blog is about me, but here's a list of random things, just because.

  • That "ooo ah ah ah ah" noise is stuck in my head from hearing that song this morning.
  • The haircut I got last week kinda sucks. But it'll grow! That's the good thing.
  • I'm not a very faith-based person but I do believe that everything happens for a reason.
  • I like looking at photos of friends.
  • It's March! Yay! Getting closer to summer.
  • I'm way better at admitting my own feelings to myself than I used to be. Accepting them....well, that's a little harder.
  • Even though I've said before that I've accepted all the dog hair...some days it makes me insane.
  • Bubble gum is fun no matter how old you are.
  • Still need a vacation.
  • Some days I can totally drink the shit out of water and other days I can barely get down a glass.
  • I got my braces on this very date in 1983.
  • I'm good at remembering random dates.
