More Cringe - old diary entries *(NERD ALERT!)*

April 29, 1988
[14 yrs old - end of 8th grade]

Dear Diary,
Got up a little late. Wore peach shorts. In Spanish got 100 on test. In chorus we sang. In math I got a 95 on a surprise test. In English I got 100 on vocab test I didn't study for. In history got tons of assignments and have an essay due May 6th. In lunch had ham. In Science got 75 on test plus 10 points for 10 correctly identified rocks. So I now have an 85. I did my three labs. Everyone copied my answers. My report card:

Spanish - 98
Art - 94
Chorus - 95
Math - 93
English - 94
History - 93
Gym - 99
Science - 92

Came home. Dad came home from California. Thunder and rain. Had pizza. Packed for tomorrow. I am so excited.
Love, Heather

Shouldn't, but can't help it

I've added a new site to the blogs I check on a near-daily basis. It's called "Pink is the New Blog" and it's chuck full 'o Hollywood gossip and pics. I know I shouldn't be into reading this stuff because the paparazzi hunt them down, but it's just fun to see how normal some are and how out there the others are.

It's been raining off-and-on all day. At one point, there was a clap of thunder so loud that it sounded like it was right outside my window. I love the rain. I love the feeling it gives you. I love the sound and the smell. I love the green that it produces during and after it stops.

Sneaky Sneaky, Sir

Ran the Cherry Creek Sneak for the 8th year this morning. I think today might have been the best I ever did in it. I can't believe it. I guess if you skip working out for a week and then eat like crap the two days before it, you'll do pretty good. :-)

Friday Five

1. How many locations (dwellings) have you lived in?
10, I think.

2. If you could place your dream home in any location, where would it be?
On a beach that would never erode (so, a magic beach). Probably somewhere in Hawaii or California.

3. In terms of the act of moving: are you a packer or a box mover?
I'm both.

4. What one item do you own that you absolutely hate to move?
My bed.

5. What's worse: the act of moving or a routine cleaning at the dentist?
The act of moving. I don't mind the dentist. I only mind that she's like an hour away from me, now that I don't work downtown.

Things I Want

To save every homeless dog
To have a flat stomach
To never get a zit again
A good sense of style
The Mary Poppins ability to snap my fingers to clean my house
To be super-crazy-I-can-do-anything smart
Passion
A massage whenever I want it
For everyone to like me
All my friends to be blissfully happy
To never encounter stop and go traffic again
To know what I should be doing
A more normal sleep pattern

Love this song

My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama

You know your mama and your daddy
Sayin I’m no good for you
They call me dirty from the alley
Til I don’t know what to do

I get so tired of sneakin around
Just to get to your back door
I crawled past the garbage
And your mama jumps out screamin’
Dont come back no more!

I cant take it
My guitar wants to kill your mama
My guitar wants to kill your mama
My guitar wants to burn your dad
I get real mean when it makes me mad

Later I tried to call you
Your mama told me you werent there
(you just weren’t there)
She told me don’t bother to call again
Unless I cut off all my hair

I get so tired of sneakin’ around
Just to get to your back door
I crawled past the garbage
And your mama jumped out screamin’
Dont come back no more!

I cant take it
My guitar wants to kill your mama
My guitar wants to kill your mama
My guitar wants to burn your dad
I get real mean when it makes me mad

Hudson the Hungry

My little orange boy got himself in a bit of a situation today. I got home from work late (from a pretty crappy day, I might add) and was greeted with a pile of poo by the front door. The dogs have been really good about not going in the house, so I was surprised/angry/sad and did a really good job of keeping myself from bursting into tears. I promptly whisked them outside, threw on my running gear and headed out for run.

Fifty-five minutes later, I returned home and started making the pups their dinner. I let them in from outside and Hudson kind of skirted his food bowl. That was my first clue that something was up. Hudson lives to eat and for him to not immediately inhale his food is very weird. Then, he finally started eating and when I look at him, he looks gigantic. Like, super fatty. I felt his stomach and it was distended and hard. I made JP feel it and he agreed. I freaked a little, told JP to head to the emergency vet and that I'd rinse off from my run and meet him there.

Ten minutes later, I'm pulling into the emergency vet's parking lot, and my phone rings. JP says that the vet tech says that it looks pretty bad and we're looking at about $3,000 to operate immediately to fix his stomach. (SIDE NOTE: Torsion is a condition where a dog's stomach twists on itself, thereby preventing oxygen from reaching the stomach, spleen, and then eventually the other organs....a dog can go from perfectly fine to dead in less than an hour.)

I get in there and the Dr. comes in and says that they're having problems actually getting an x-ray and the most likely scenario is torsion. Internally, I'm losing it, outwardly I was holding it together. I kept thinking that Murphie (Mom and Dad's Irish Setter) had emergency torsion surgery and had a 50/50 chance of making it....and she did. They attempt x-rays twice and keep coming in to tell us that he's too fidgety and jumpy and that the x-rays aren't coming out, so they're going to have to sedate him, which will help slow his breathing down too so he won't take in extra air to bloat him even more.

After sedation, they get a clear x-ray. The doctor comes in and says, "Well, it's good news." Turns out, Hudson somehow consumed an exorbitant amount of dog food. She takes us back to the computer and shows us his stomach via x-ray. Holy crap. He has *tons* of food in there and all his organs are pushed back by his butt (which explains the poop that awaited me when I got home.) His stomach was stretched beyond belief, so they were going to start to induce vomiting.

Or so they thought. Apparently, Hudson has an iron stomach. They gave him two doses of hydrogen peroxide with no result. Then gave him some kind of morphine that induces vomitting within a minute. But, the sedative effect knocked him out - they had overly sedated him. Luckily, he did puke about 5 cups before he completely passed out. Then, they gave him an antidote of sorts, to wake him out of his super-sedated state. He woke up about 10 minutes later and then they gave him a "reversal agent" which would push all the food and gas out the back end. Talk about noxious fumes. Wow-wee.

We finally got him home and he is one sleepy puppy. Lucy seems to have some kind of idea that he's out of it, because she's mostly leaving him alone.

So, it turns out that we forgot to put the bowl back on our Feed-n-store and Mr. HungryPants was able to eat to his heart's content - and did just that. We take the bowl out sometimes, because Lucy usually doesn't finish all of her food and Mr. FattyFat will come by and steal it. In this case - it backfired. Whoops.

As Jon-Paul put it, if Hudson could talk he would say:

"Today was the greatest day - it was the day when I ate more than I could eat."

3. Have you ever been in the hospital for an extended period of time?

Cookie Monster

I've read in the news that Sesame Street is going to make Cookie Monster a little bit healthier, with "every day" foods and "sometimes" foods. He's the friggin' Cookie Monster -- he can't be eating celery. First the kids can see Snufalufugus, now the Cookie Monster isn't going to steal your cookies? How about getting rid of Elmo? He teaches kids poor grammar and has probably helped a few develop speech impediments.

Anyway...enough of my ranting. (Can you tell my Junior year Research paper was on Sesame Street in college?)

I made chocolate chip cookies tonight -- and if Cookie Monster is feeling like giving political correctness the finger -- he can come have some.

Draggin' Ass

Felt kinda worn out today. Don't really know why. Could have been all the shoveling, maybe I'm fighting a bug. I don't feel sick or anything, just kinda run down. And, since work was cancelled yesterday, I feel super-behind at work. How can one day set you back like five? Easy- when you can't get to your own tasks because you're working on a billion others for other people. The day flew by because I was so busy...but man, I just want to catch up.

List of stuff

My [work] e-mail inbox is sucking my will to live.
I'm craving the Rio's chips and salsa.
Even though my stomach is poufy.
I'm sleepy. Very sleepy.
I need to work out, but probably won't today.
I am incredibly white - need a tan.
I haven't done yoga in a week. And I can feel it.
Summer needs to get here pretty soon.
Thinking about a new car.
Lawn is faintly starting to turn green - even though it doesn't get much sun.
You really have no idea. None.
I really need to re-paint my toes.
Need to paint the walls.
Need to clean like crazy.
I have to get to the beach this year. Have to.
I must spend multiple days at said beach.
It's been 5 years since I've been on a true vacation.
I need a vacation.
Bad bad bad.
Motivation has made itself scarce this week.
I don't want it to snow this weekend.
Reading my old diaries has made me realize what a dork I've always been.

Friday Five

1. What kind of toothpaste do you use?
Colgate

2. Do you take vitamins?
I used to be really good about it. Not so much lately.

3. Which over-the-counter drug can't you live without?
I rarely take anything. I fight my pains like a champ....but probably Advil.

4. What kind of soap do you have in your shower?
Lever 2000. (Well, imitation Lever 2000 - they changed the smell a couple of years back and this imitation one has the "original" scent, which I love.

5. What is the most unusual item in your medicine cabinet?
An undeveloped roll of Kodak 35mm film. I still don't know what's on it. It might even be black and white.

Diary (The continuation of cringe-worthy entries)

(In this entry, I'm 17 years old...oh the angst. I like that I have to say to myself in my own diary that I love Jenn in a strictly non-gay way. And that I have total ADD toward the end when I think I hear a car accident.)

June 25, 1991

Dear Diary,

Today was AWESOME. Jeff came in my house this morning and woke me and Jenn up around 8:00AM. (She slept over after work last night - went home to sock her pool first, though.) - Oh I also talked to Dave yesterday. Well, we got ready - went food shopping, picked up Jamie. Got Dan H., then Dan G. Tried to get Joe S. but he was in trouble and in bed. Went to Subway and finally got to the beach. It was cool with me and Jenn being the only girls. I really love her a lot. (not gay) We're so much alike and I don't get sick of her. We always have the best time - no matter what. She is my best friend I think. Well, Jeff's car did pretty well on the beach. The water was really choppy and sandy and I wiped out pretty bad. Me and Jenn and Dan H tanned basically. All of us were in and out of the water. They all left around 4pm. Me and Jenn walked to bathroom, I called home. My report card is very awesome! 93 on both of my Regents. (English and History)Then Jess arrived, went back to our spot, hung out, waved to many people. Jenn got dissed by some 14 year old kids. It was so funny. I think I just heard a car accident - it's 12:36am. Hope it wasn't. Then I ran off to call Dave - they got worried and looked for me. We came back to my house - hung. Brad from East Coast Surf came and we got all the free shit - nice stuff. Then Kerrie and Kara showed up. Jenn and Jeff left. Talked about camping. Honked (beeped) people until midnite. Jason G, Matt A, Tammie A, Paul, Jenn T and others. It was fun. Great Day! Love, Heather

Some Cringe-Worthy Reading

I have been inspired by this blog entry. If you don't feel like going to read it - here's the gist of what it says. In an effort to make people laugh, I will periodically publish journal entries from my teenage years. I have many journals that span several years and they make me cringe. Oh - but they make me laugh. It's pretty amusing how I chronicle almost everything I eat, I guess my life was pretty exciting back in the day.

So here goes my first entry:

April 21, 1988 (approx. 14 yrs old)

Dear Diary,

Average day. In
chorus we got a new
song. I can't figure
out English dittos.
In SS I had to
read so I had to
take my retainers
out. In lunch Jess
yelled at me for
always being by her.
I don't mean to
but it always turns
out that way and
she only gets mad.
In Sci. I got 100
on quiz. Had Burger
King (chicken sandwich). Went
food shopping. Got comforters.
Love,
Heather

Bye Bye Weekend, I Hardly Knew Ye

The weekend has flown by (as usual) and I don't really have anything to show for it. I didn't accomplish much of anything and I've felt pretty crappy. I'm not sick or anything. Like today, we went to Emma's birthday party at the Rec Center. And instead of just kicking back and just having a good time in the pool, all I could think about was that I was in a public in a bathing suit. Why do I even care? Why can't I get past that? I'm slowly but surely working on it. There was a time where I probably wouldn't have even gotten out there in the pool. So, right there - it's a huge step for me to work up that nerve.

I have a lot on my mind today and I can't really focus. My heart is heavy and hopeful and I am tired and worn out. I feel like I've run a marathon. So many things are going on in so many areas of my brain. My body is craving nothing but junk today. It doesn't want water - it wants soda. Sure it craved a big salad - but that went along with the Old Chicago pizza buffet. :-) I am out of whack and look forward to sleeping tonight.

Friday Five

1. If you were a shoe, what would you look like?
I'd be some kind of really cool flip flop.

2. If you were a t-shirt, what would you say?
Dork.

3. If your house caught on fire and was burning to the ground...what is the one thing you'd save and why?
If I was the only person in it - me. If there were other people...I'd save them.

4. If you were a book...would you read yourself?
Yes, but I probably wouldn't get it. ;-)

5. If you could do anything at all (without consequences), what would you do?What wouldn't I do? There'd be lots of eating, lots of alcohol, lots of trampolines and beaches and dogs and friends and vacations.

Cool Quote

This was at the bottom of an e-mail I received today. I like it.

"I say follow your bliss and do not be afraid and doors will open where you did not know they were going to be." - Joseph Campbell
