Avert your Eyes!
You know your co-worker is a good friend when you walk into the company kitchen as he's dumping out a 20-pack of Coors Light bottles and tries to block your view and says, "Look Away, Heather....look away."
I walked up, took one of the bottles in my hand and examined it - the expiration date was in 2002. "It was their time, it's cool," I said as I watched the expired foam fill up the sink.
[The Beer was left over from a company event from a few years ago, just for the record.]
Speaking of beer

What do you think you'll be for Halloween?
I know it's 2 months away, but what costume ideas have you been starting to think about???
I'm glad today is over. It was on the rough side. I really need a massage. If I wasn't such a freak about it, I would probably go get one tomorrow. But, since the thought of a total stranger touching me is beyond my realm of comfort, this crick in my shoulder will just have to work itself out.
Oh, and the Poon Saloon title? I saw it as the name of a bar in some random movie on Comedy Central this weekend and just thought it was funny. :-)

How to Sum Up my Weekend:
(in which I am played by Amy's daughter, Emma)
Saturday, August 27, 2005
Why do I?
When my home phone rings and it says "out of area" or "unknown caller" why is it that I give it the finger? I do this with my computers too. Pretty much any inanimate object that doesn't work the way I want it to gets the finger.
I don't when or how this started, but I kinda like that I do it.

Friday Five1. List five people and a song that reminds you of them or that you think best describes them (list the person's name, the song title, and the song's artist).DeAnn Franklin - Stroke Me/Magic Stick Remix - Lil Kim (w/ 50 cent) and Billy Squire
- There were many lunches when we'd hear this song and rock out. David Sandford - "Cold Beverage" by G. Love and Special Sauce
- In college, Dave played this song for me and I always loved the way he'd goofily sing along with it. Mike Bush - "Toxic" by Britney Spears
- Mike has(had?) a thing for Brit and it's too funny. He used to make up his own lyrics to this song and I can't hear this song without thinking of him and laughing. Nikki Comstock (Krohn) - "Touch-A, Touch-A, Touch Me" by Susan Sarandon in Rocky Horror Picture Show There are about 4,000 songs that make me think of Nik, but this one sticks out because we have video of ourselves lip synching to it. Sofa Kings. Yikes!Dad - "Don't Eat the Yellow Snow/St. Alfonso's Pancake Breakfast" by Frank Zappa
- I can't even tell you how many times in my childhood that Dad would blast this song, play air guitar and be a complete and total goofball. I loved those Saturday mornings.2. What would your life's soundtrack be?
Man, what wouldn't be on it? Lots of:
Kid Rock, Audioslave, Deee-Lite, Sublime, No Doubt, Beastie Boys, Rakes Progress, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Dig, Frank Zappa, Justin Timberlake, Disturbed, Billy Joel, Jane's Addiction, Porno for Pyros, George Michael (older), Snoop Dogg, old school Pearl Jam, Beach Boys, Beatles, random top 40 stuff through the years, Depeche Mode ("sucks!" --sorry...old Kids in the Hall skit), James Taylor, Living Colour, Matthew Sweet, Prince, Nine Inch Nails, Portishead, Material Issue, Jeff Buckley, Liz Phair, Steve Miller, Rush, Smashing Pumpkins (older), The Doors, The Police, Christina Aguilera, Z, Salt n Pepa, Van Halen.
...the list goes on and on and on, like the break of dawn!3. Which would you prefer: to live somewhere that is hot or to live somewhere that is cold year-round? Why?
Hot. I am always cold. I actually prefer a place with all seasons, but if I had to pick, it'd definitely be a *hot* climate. 4. Suppose you had twins, a boy and a girl. What names would you give and why?
Erik - I've always loved that name, and spelled with a "K".
Sam - I've always loved a little girl being called Sam.5. What's a quote/lyric that describes you right now?
"Things do not change; we change." Henry David Thoreau
I'm gonna keep looking for a better lyric/quote...but this one is pretty good.
Holy Crap, Dude
Thanks for all the comments on my pic yesterday. I'm so loving it...and loving you all. :-)

Since there have been a couple of searches for "St. Pauli Girl and Halloween" that have led people to my blog, I am cheating a little bit this week and posting a pic of me in my St. Pauli Girl costume from last Halloween.

Five Happy Things
1. Slippery surfaces.
2. When a Tae Bo workout comes to an end.
3. Being told a color looks good on you.
4. A common enemy.
Downtown Doodie Brown
So, through the wonders of genetics, I have a pretty funky hair color. I guess most people when asked would probably say that I have light brown or auburn hair, but the only person I've ever seen with my exact same hair color is Jessica (my twin sister). I have never
dyed my hair. (Or permed it or done anything remotely damaging to it.) Occasionaly though, when I'm walking through a drugstore, I'll try to match my color to those hair loops in the shampoo aisle, but I've never found one that was even close.
Which concerns me, because I'm guessing in about 5 to 10 years, I'm going to have
to start coloring my hair. THE GREYS, THEY ARE STARTING TO MULTIPLY. It used to be that I'd find a grey hair here or there and then I'd pluck it out. Now, pretty much wherever I pull my hair apart I can find a patch of the little jerks. Waaaaaay too many to pluck these days.
That's what got me thinking about hair color. It will be sad not to have this unique color someday...I'll have to head toward the redder side or the browner side.
The browner side of anything does not sound good. Sounds dirty. Literally. ;-)
Speaking of doodie....I hadn't been to doodie.com
in a while. Looks like they've got a pop-up or two now, but the cartoons are still funny as shit. Pun intended.

Always good for a laugh
I check dooce.com
on an almost-daily basis....and I know I've said it before, but that woman never ceases to make me laugh. Usually it's her writing...but today's picture
made me belly laugh.
. Can I have just like 1/16th of that? Thanks!
Toki's Tuesday Ten
(Get the Questions
here)1/ Today - quick, right this minute - what's your most fervent wish?
Happiness....mostly to figure out what I want to do with my life.2/ How do you normally 'give back'?

Humor, compliments, looking for the good, remembering to live in the moment. That and mooning people whenever the opportunity arises. Everyone loves a good mooning.4/ You deserve good things, just for being a good person! What's the best thing that's happened to you lately?
I got to go see Mom and Dad. And there are some other things...5/ What are your favourite lucky numbers, be it days of the week, lotto numbers, numerology...etc.?
11. (eleven)6/ You've been given five minutes of absolute bliss (not drugs, bliss, silly) - what are they like?

Pretty much every day. I guess it was instilled in childhood.8/ (really 7b) When you last participated in The Secret - what was it?
Napkin at a fast food joint.9/ What's your favourite thing to do to make another person smile - whether or not they know you've done it for them?
Give them some kind of gift or card out of the blue - something that really reminds me of them so they know that they're often in my thoughts. --OR-- Be a clown...do something goofy or make some kind of sarcastic remark. 10/ No more questions, actually, just a hope for each and every one of you - I hope you are blessed by Karma every day, as much as and exceeding how she has blessed me.

A Small Miracle Just Occurred
I cleaned my car.
Saturday, August 20, 2005
I am actually pretty sad to report this, but the James Taylor concert *sucked* last night. I do have to say that his voice sounded great. But it was so beyond low-key that we all sort of lost interest. I had been kind of worried that that would happen since I'm such a hard-rock fan these days. But, there is that soft spot in my heart for James. He didn't play very long and the tickets were $70. I feel like we were ripped off. I was so excited to see the legend and I feel really disappointed.
The hippies made for fun people watching, though. ;-)

Ric gave me a bowl of Flavor Blast Pepperidge Farm Cheddar Goldfish. Oh my god, they so rock! I'm thinking they'd go really well with beer. (He suggested wine.) :-)
History Lesson in HappyKap10 years ago today:
Probably hanging out at Smithspoint
one last time before I had to head back to Ithaca College
for my senior year. I had to go up early because I worked in the campus center and we had to be there a few days before everyone else. I also was able to go up early because we lived off-campus senior year and I'm sure Nikki
and I wanted to get there as soon as possible to kick off our senior year! (and get the best rooms!)5 years ago today:
Working at BizBlast.com. (Now a completely gone dot com.)I think I had just moved into a new apartment with JP and Jessica. (I'll have to look back in a journal to see exactly what I was doing.) :-)1 year ago today:
Had just attended the Coors Light Mountain Jam at Red Rocks and saw many bands including Kid Rock!!! Had just finished reading The Da Vinci Code
. And I was helping Jason and Deann move into their temporary apartment while they sold one house and had the other built. Here's
what I did the whole month. Yesterday:
Got to work a little before 7am. Cranked out some work. Deann
sent me an IM to say Hi and we ended up meeting for lunch. (Which was awesome because I don't see her too much these days since she's on maternity leave.) Went to Ross. Bought some shoes and underwear. (surprise surprise) Did some more work. Went and signed the application to refinance the house solely in my name. Ahhhh! Looks like my payment will remain about the same. Went home, worked out. Went and played Trivia. Came in 1st and won $50. (The questions were unusually easy last night.) Went over to Jason and Deann's around 10pm and had a few drinks and talked. In bed by 1:30am.Tomorrow:
Probably sleep a little late. (til about 7:30am or 8am.) Work out, clean, organize, gather the supporting documentation for my refinancing. Play with the pups
. Shop for a sofa bed. (Yuck! I hate shopping, but I need one.) Maybe check out tiles so I can get rid of my doggy-yucked-up carpeting one day soon. Try to do something semi-social in the evening or go to the movies or continue organizing/cleaning the house. Pretty much I have no plans these days. 5 snacks I enjoy:
Chocolate (Hershey Kisses usually)
Pretzels5 Bands That I Know the Lyrics to Most of Their Songs:
(Oh and of course Billy Joel since I'm from Long Island.)5 Things I Would Do with a $100,000,000:
Pay off all my and my family's debts.
Pay off all my friends' debts.
Do lots of fun stuff all the time because money wouldn't be an issue.
Donate to animal rescue organizations.
Donate to lots of other places. 5 Locations I Would Like to Run Away to:

On Being Used and Not Caring
Are you ever completely aware of the fact that you're being used, but you really don't mind? If you can get something out of it, does it then make it okay? Most of the time in involves other people lying, not yourself, but does that implicate you?
My current detachment/apathy is [happily] keeping me from wanting to decide, so I think I'll just go with the flow. :-)
My "Official" Interview
(courtesy of Sean
The Official Interview Game Rules:
1. If you want to participate, leave a comment below saying interview me.
2. I will respond by asking you five questions - each person's will be different.
3. You will update your journal/blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview others in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
Here are your five questions:1) Have you ever committed and illegal activity? If no, tell us a time you were naughty. Actually, just go with a naughty story.
I've never committed an illegal activity beyond underage drinkin'. :-) And sad, sad, sadly, I don't have any naughty stories....oh wait, when I was in college and on crew, our entire 8-woman boat rowed topless on a dare...that's kinda naughty, right?2) If you could turn back the hands of time, what person would you like to meet or what event would you like experience?
I think attending Woodstock (69) would be bad ass. But on a more sentimental note, I think it would be really cool to go see what my parents were like when they first met. 3) If you could play ANY musical instrument bad ass....what would it be?
Drums!!!! No doubt about it.4) What's the craziest thing (or wildest or gross or obscene or wrong or insane)..you would do for a million dollars?
Your dad. Nah...totally kidding...old college joke. I would pluck out all my eyebrow hairs and eyelashes for a million dollars. 5) Please attribute a category to each of the following: Shag, Marry, or Throw off a cliff- Michael Jackson, Scott Peterson, The guy who played Lurch on the The Addams Family.
(I'm evil, I know :) )
Holy crap, dude! Weak!
Michael Jackson - Marry
Scott Peterson - Throw off a cliff
Lurch - Shag
Things I Like Now, That I Didn't Like 10 Years Ago

This pic is from my trip to Glendo a few weeks back. The lake was a bit choppy, so we anchored up and hung on the boats. Some of us decided to do back flips and being the photo-crazy girl I am, we took pics.

"I'm Going to Dallas!"
Big THANKS go out to Lushy
for pointing out the e-fare. I'm going to see Mom and Dad for the first time since Christmas!! And, this weekend is their annual Summer Party complete with the Margarita Man
and a keg of Coors Light. Plus, I get to meet their friends! Yay! (Not to mention lounging by the pool, working on my tan.) Okay, who wants to come???...the invitation is open! :-)
Last night I went to Film on the Rocks at Red Rocks
. The movie was The Goonies
and I had a great time. It was a sold out crowd and the people watching was fun. It rained a little bit in the middle, but I found that kind of funny since Dad always popped in The Goonies on rainy days when I was younger. And, The Goonies rules. :-)

- The summer is going to be over soon. Boo.

Dyson is fully recovered!
My beloved Dyson is working again. How I love it so. [I know it's a vacuum but I <3 it.] Many thanks go out to Ric Ric Ric for making it suck again. I owe you a margarita, Mr. Fix It.
)What would you do in the following situations?1. The store clerk undercharges you for an item you purchase?
If I'm paying attention, I tell them.2. The cashier gives you change for a fifty dollar bill when you only gave her a twenty, and you don't realize it until you're out the door?
I go back and give the cashier their extra money. Back in college when I was a cashier at Home Depot, this happened to me and it threw my drawer count off. I was just dumbfounded that someone could be so mean as to not tell me. 3. You see your best friend's husband/wife with another woman/man at a neighborhood restaurant?
I would go up and say hello and try to assess the situation.4. Your 15 year old asks you if you ever tried an alcoholic beverage before you were of legeal drinking age (and you have)?
Yes. I'd be honest and say that I'd had. And if they wanted to try one, I'd let them in the safety of my home. If you de-mystify such things they don't become so alluring. 5. You find a one hundred dollar bill laying on the floor of a department store?
I leave it with the nearest register for an hour or two, if no one claims it, I'd keep it.
"It Just Doesn't Matter!" [name that movie!]
Do you ever feel like you're watching your own life? That it's so surreal and not your own? That's how I'm feeling these days. It's neither bad nor good - it just is what it is. All the things that were comfortable and that made your life, your life have completely changed, fallen apart, stopped, disappeared or faded away.
And the weird part is that I just don't care. It's just gotten to the overkill point where I was affected by everything, and now I am affected by nothing. And it's not like when you say "I don't care" but you actually do care and stew on the inside. I actually don't care about a lot of things right now. What's that? You wanna screw me over? Don't care. You wanna take that away? Don't care. You wanna not be there when I need you? Don't care. Do I want to go out or just sit at home? Don't really care either way. It's *really* odd for me to be this apathetic. But, I just don't care. :-)
I think this is what they call detachment. And you know what? I'm going to ride it out and enjoy not getting all tangled up in stupid emotions. Because, in general, I would say I'm pretty sensitive and I would describe myself as such -- but not lately.
It's actually pretty liberating. I'm hoping this detachment will help me grow as a person as I assess things in my life. I'm not saying that I'm feeling nothing - because that would be a lie. But I'm not taking things to heart, or as personally as I normally would. I *know* this phase will pass, (or at least I think it will) but I'm going to milk it for its advantages. And by no means does this mean I'm depressed - quite the opposite really. It's hard to put into words.
p.s. Oh and the movie is Meatballs

The Best Laid Plans
Came home to work out. Did not. Ended up at The Rock. Drank with Deann
. Fun was had. Home by 9pm. Such a suburbanite am I.
And totally random - Found this
via some random person's blog and it totally cracked me up because it's so true.
I want to go boogie boarding on a beach.
I have a nervous pit in my stomach and it has nothing to do with me.
I want to go bowling.
I shouldn't admit it, but I want to see Dukes of Hazard.
Getting up at 5:33am to feed the dogs sucks ass.
I'm wearing some fun shoes
" - what a great nickname.
I found Dave's Top 10
list by googling him.
I haven't had an adult beverage since last Wednesday.
I miss the summer when we were all going out all the time together.
Not Just Realizing...but it Needs to be Stated Nonetheless
I *suck* at being a girl. Granted, I don't try that hard, but I'm just no good at it.
But....I do know what kind I am
, according to that quiz anyway.

Get Off The Lawn
I just realized that I left a carton of Whoppers under my passenger seat. I'm going to have Whopper soup when I get home.
What made me suddenly remember? I was thinking about chocolate (as I am apt to do) and recalled a candy bar I saw in King Soopers today...a Hershey bar with Whopper pieces in it. Mmmmmm. There was also a Hershey bar with Reese's Pieces in it.
Seriously, who in 2005 uses the word "apt"? Apparently, me.
I am a couch whore
I am really really, really, picky when it comes to getting a couch. It has to be just right
. Since my front room is now completely empty I'm starting to look around at couches. I thought I would just go totally cheap, but I don't think my inner-couch whore is going to let that happen. I'll probably go with a LaZBoy again. They are just so durable and comfortable.
I am also a doggy treat whore. I went into PetSmart to buy some dog food and came out with that plus toys and treats for a grand total of over $150. I've got issues. I think I'm good through Halloween though. :-)
I am also a fruit whore. I ran into the supermarket to get some soap - and came out with several packages of raspberries, blueberries and strawberries. I would seriously eat berries til I explode. Actually....I'm not even gonna go there. ;-)
