Ten Years of Sneakin'
I ran the Cherry Creek Sneak for the tenth year in a row yesterday. Can you believe that? Me, doing something for TEN YEARS IN A ROW!
I think it's the largest 5-mile foot race in the country. And considering that the weather was amazing yesterday, I'd venture a guess that it was the most crowded one in the past ten years I've been there. Usually by mile three it opens up and you have some elbow room, but yesterday was just a dense sea of people coupled with HOT temperatures.
I didn't get my personal best, nor my personal worst, but I did run the whole thing with no stops. Last year I practically walked the whole thing. So, I feel pretty good. Mostly, I just wanted to get it over with, because now that I've hit the decade mark, I'm free to just not do it from here on out if I don't feel like it. :-)
I like freedom.Editor's Additonal Note:
After running this race, it is official that Coldplay sucks my ass. I kept my iPod on shuffle and I have a couple of their tunes on there from some complilation CD I downloaded from somewhere. Holy crap, that is the most de-motivating crap. Van Halen, Kid Rock, Pussycat Dolls and other randomness totally made the 5 miles pass.

My Brush With Nature
When on my run today, something got in my eye. I assumed it was just some dirt or a piece of grass or something, because it was getting windy as a storm was rolling in. Trying to get my 5 miles in before the downpour, I thought nothing of it. Came home, did some arms, did some yoga. When I finally got around to looking in the mirror, I noticed a dark glob in the inner corner of my eye. Recognizing that it was darker than the eyeliner that typically collects there after a workout, I took a closer look. It was a bug. Yes, a gnat-like bug, hit my eye, struggled and died there. And housed its nasty carcass for well over two hours. Nastiness. There was a bug in my freaking eye for longer than a few seconds. I hope it didn't lay eggs there -- I may become an urban legend.
Don't think you needed it....
<nerd_alert>But if you need proof for your theory that I'm a giant dork, I AM SO EXCITED that Heroes is back on tonight. </nerd_alert>

Friday Five1. How are you stereotypically female?
I like boys. I love wild flowers. I love candles. I have a total obsession with flip flops. I love to try new shampoos. I worry about my weight.2. How are you stereotypically male?
I'm very low-maintenance. I'm not very girly. 3. What parts of you do you consider unclassifiable as either gender?
My sense of humor. My intellect. My love of dogs. 4. Do you think you are primarily male, female, or neither in characteristics?
I am primarily female. Parts are parts. :-) But sometimes my actions/personality have me proclaiming, "I'm such a guy!"5. If you could be born as any gender, knowing the gender prejudices as they are now, which would you choose to be?
I think it would be interesting to know what it's like to be a guy. But, I'm pretty content in my lot in life as a chick.

Things I've Learned Lately
- Positive thinking is where it's at. Even when you wake up funky, you can will it away with optimism.
- I finally truly like coffee
- I'm more self-conscious of my scar than I thought.
- Go where the butterflies are.
- "Picture" was the perfect length for Deanne and I to hit the bathroom and be back by the next song. That's the only Kid Rock song I'd ever skip.
- There are good doctors. My new doctor is a thousand times better than my previous. I had to beg my old doctor to do a year follow-up ultrasound for the tumor. The new guy I went to yesterday thinks that might not have been thorough enough. Having a doctor you like, recommend a doctor that they like, seems to be a smart way to find a doctor.
- People *really* notice my freckles these days.
- Everyone is ready for the summer.
- I want to travel.
- Time really is your best friend.

A Bit About My Bad Ass Weekend
Let me start by saying that I spent the better part of last week eagerly anticipating going to Vail to see Kid Rock. When the concert was announced last month, I saw it as my goal, nay, my mission, to be there. Everyone wanted to go, but for one reason or another could not make it - except for rock stars Mike and Deanne. I bought the tickets the second they went on sale in March and Deanne hunted us down a "mystery property." What this meant, was that we were guaranteed a 2-bed, 2-bath condo with hot tub, kitchen, etc., but we wouldn't know exactly where we'd be staying until we got up there. It saved us a buttload of money so we took the risk.
Also, the local weather people were predicting an epic storm that was going to completely cripple Denver. In my mind, I knew it wouldn't hit us and we were gonna have clear roads on Saturday morning for the drive up. Damn, if I didn't wake up on Friday morning to nothing but a little cloudiness. I was stoked that my positive thinking paid off. Right there, I was sold on a positive outlook and optimism.
I started Friday night with a happy hour with work folk and then headed on over to another bar to rendezvous with a friend. Sparing you the details, let me just say I had a really super-fantastic late night. Woke up Saturday with my heart dancing. Not sure if that was caused by 3 hours sleep, the previous night's alcohol, the previous night's activity or the month-long anticipation of seeing Kid Rock. I'm gonna go ahead and take an educated guess, that it was a combination of all; with more than half of it being the Kid Rock part.
Opened the window - and holy hell if that sun wasn't shining brighter and happier than I could have even imagined.
Met up with Mike and Deanne and headed up to Vail. We got to the condo...and it was very cool. We definitely scored a deal. They too had a late Friday night of their own, so the three of us opted to skip the pre-game vodka. (Something none of us regret.) We headed over to the skimming contest. Now, for those of you who are not familiar, the skimming contest involves contestants skiing or boarding down the hill across a man-made lake of water. Those who have skillz, make it across the pond and don't get wet. Those who are new, or rock a flip, spin, or other trick, typically land in the water, which by the looks on their faces had to be in the 32 - 42 degrees range. Yikes!
Watched the contest for a while and then headed for the bars. A couple were just way too crowded, so I picked the Red Lion. We ended up a table that had been reserved, but the party didn't show up. Sat down and ordered, and waited. Then the waiter told us that the party had showed up and we'd have to move. But, the owner was going to pay our entire bill for the rest of the night. SCORE! We ordered lots of shots and drinks and ended up only having to move over one table. The place got super crazy crowded and we had a great time. We realized it was getting kind of late and headed over for Ford Amphitheater. We got there just in time. Within 10 minutes of being there Kid Rock went on. There were no strippers or pyrotechnics...but there were Bicardi Girls in blow-up snow globes.
The show was AWESOME! We kept calling everyone so they could hear some of it. He even did a cover of "Crazy Bitch" by Buckcherry. It was the perfect night too. Wasn't cold at all. It was a good crowd and a fantastic show!Photos
Monday's a Bitch1. Which member of your family do you get along with the best?
I don't know. Probably a tie between Mom and Dad.2. What aspects of your personality do you think are a direct result of the way you were raised?
Optimism and Generosity = Mom.
Sense of Humor and Goofiness = Dad.3. What's the stupidest fight you've ever had with a family member?
Oh, there's no doubt it's got to be any number of arguments that Jessica and I had growing up.4. Who in your family do you look the most like?
Jessica. (my twin sister) Ha! Ha!5. Do you relate to the characteristics associated with your place in the birth order?
I'm a twin, so yes. I think I have some attachment issues.

Blue Skies, Puppy Dogs, Free Jaeger Bombs, and American Bad Ass

For a while, I was experiencing many elements of oldness. But, I'm happy to report that I have not had to pop a Zantac in almost 40 days. Thank you heartburn/sour stomach gods. Plus, I haven't had an ophthalmic migraine since March 26th! Yippee! Things look to be on the upswing.
Friday Five1. What have you said lately that has gotten you into trouble?
Nothing. I kinda steer clear of trouble.2. When is the last time you censored yourself?
I'm pretty much an open book most of the time, but I try not to curse around kids. I *try*.3. Describe your last date:
Ha. Jason and I were having a discussion the other day as to what constitutes a date. Does it count as a date if you don't think of it that way, but the other person does? Does it count as a date if there are more than just you and someone else? I've been out a couple of times this week with various peeps...so last one would just be having cocktails and funny conversations at a rough bar. 4. Go to the closest window -- what do you see?
Cars in a parking lot.5. What's your favorite board game?
Monopoly? Scrabble? Yahtzee? I don't know if I have a favorite.

:-)I've been gone, I've been gone for way too long
Maybe I forgot all things I miss
Oh somehow I know there's more to life than this
I said it too many times
And I still stand firm
You get what you put in
And people get what they deserve
Still I ain't seen mine
No I ain't seen mine
I've been giving just ain't been gettin
I've been walking that there line
So I think I'll keep on walking
With my head held high
I'll keep moving on

Back in the Saddle...
Like many of my blogging buddies, I've kinda fallen into a mostly postless universe. So, I'm going to attempt to turn it around. And in perfect HappyKap fashion, I shall list the randomness that is going through my brain.
- Happy Birthday Emma!
- Grandma is out of the ICU and in her own room. Yay. She's doing well despite the fact that it was worse than they had anticipated.
- My armpit hurts. I think from bowling last night. Or air hockey.
- After having made an appointment months ago with a new Dr., it got cancelled half an hour before its scheduled time because he was too busy delivering a slow-movin' baby. All that anxiety all morning for nothing....and I get to experience it over again another day. Booooo.
- I drank too much for a Monday night. But not *too* much. :-)
- My tattoo itches.
- People laugh at me when I slap it.
- I laughed harder today than I have laughed in probably a year. In King Soopers. (That's a supermarket to any non-Coloradoans out there.) At things that really weren't funny. But goddam they were funny to us.
- K-I-D! 4 days.
- I have the best Mom in the world.
Until today, I haven't really had any real sensation with the new tattoo....no pain or anything. But, holy cow, I woke up this morning and it's so frickin' itchy. The instruction sheet says not to scratch it, that if it's itchy you have to slap it. I'm slappin' but I want to be scratchin'!

I am currently reading a few books. I finished Will She or Won't She

. As well as a buttload of magazines simultaneously.2. What is your favorite genre of book to read and why?
Sci Fi probably. I'm a nerd. I've been into fiction lately. 3. Do you have a library card?
Yes.4. Are there any books that people have recommended to you that you just can't get into?
Nope.5. What would you title your memoir?
