Welcome Annabelle!

I have a puppy niece! Jessica has a new Vizsla companion. She came into Jessica's life on Saturday. (I think it's cool that she got her on LuLu's birthday.) Her name is Annabelle and she is a sweety sweet. She cuddles, plays and is all around beautiful. Yay for Jessica!

Greetings from Seattle!

I'm in the Emerald City, minus my sparkly red shoes. I arrived yesterday. It was a long and trying day, but a sunny one - which I hear is rare for these parts.

I've been sent here for a Sharepoint Conference. A gathering of a Microsoft-specific nerd herd of sorts. It is a veritable sausage fest - and I mean that in the nicest/funniest/most honest way possible. I'm not trying to be snarky - it just really is a sea of techie men. (And a very small handful of techie women.)

I've always known that I was an oddity but this is hugely literal representation of that. I am -- and quite honestly feel like -- a freak. But in a weird way I like it. I don't think I'd have it any other way. I like being a girl geek. (Albeit, not a socially inept one - as they're often portrayed on TV and movies.)

It's funny that throughout the course of my career, I've worked for Microsoft (in Colorado) for almost eight years - once for 2.5 years as a contractor back in the late 90s and up until October 2007 for 5.5 years as an actual employee. Now that I'm working for a completely unaffiliated, non-technical, Colorado company - I *finally* get sent to a Microsoft conference in the mothership's homeland. Believe me, the irony is not lost.

I'm trying to take some photos, but I'm holed up most of the day in Breakout Sessions. (which have been great.) Since I was in the overflow room for Bill Gates' keynote, I had to take a pic of him on the screen. But the nerd in me had to take it.

So far, so good.
