Dear Winter,

You are a schizophrenic poopy-face. 7 degrees this morning. Last week it was 71. I wore flip flops to the store last weekend. I was holed-up in bed this weekend with a nasty bug I'm sure you resurrected from your repertoire. You forced me to watch terrible movies. (Even though I am guilty of DVRing half of them.)

And you can't make the snow a lazy Saturday evening event, oh no. It has to come on about an hour before the Monday morning commute, so as to extend the torture that is my drive. (You're just lucky I'm still in the honeymoon phase with my car.)

Mostly, I'm saying, I totally dug last week:
  • 60s and 70s
  • Happy Hour on a patio
  • A 5-mile run in a t-shirt and shorts
Now, this week:
  • An annoying cold
  • Freezing windshield wiper fluid
  • Snow! On a Monday!
  • Did I mention the amount of boogers and dirty kleenex I've made?
I'm sure that last week has some kind of tie to global warming or whatever and I know that's bad theoretically.

But dude, I totally loved it.

Your friend who prefers the milder winters,
HappyKap

Happy Birthday Jessica

I know you never read this, but I'm posting it anyway. It's January, so I'm organizing and filing stuff, and came across my old writing notebooks, as I tend to do every January. Found this poem from the early 90s.

Boys understood the cuts
On my knees
And the way I walked funny,
Kinda like my Dad- with a bop.

Boys understood the excitement
Of thinking Star Wars was real
Knowing that my Han Solo doll
Was way cooler than Barbie - or Ken for that matter.

Boys understood that forts in
The woods with the bugs biting
Was much less irritating
Than wearing nail polish and dresses.

Boys understood that cases full of
Matchbox cars deserved
Far more praise than owning
Strawberry Shortcake and her friends.

There was one girl who understood
Me better than any of those boys
Who saved me from battles with storm troopers
Built forts bigger than life
And showed me what love was
By trading me her matchbox corvette for my mail truck.

Ball of Anxiety

I don't even know how to articulate what is going on in my brain and my world today. All I keep hearing in my head is "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh" and "shit!". And I didn't even go heavy on the coffee. Just feeling a bit crazy. I hate anticipation.
